Montemar, Costa del sol, Spain

The Costa del Sol stretches along just over 150 kilometres of Málaga province and is one of Spain's most popular tourist destinations. The area's mild climate is the root attraction that makes it possible to enjoy the golden beaches and a wide variety of outdoor activities all year round.

The Eastern Costa del sol, Andalucia, Spain

This is the the 54 kilometre stretch of coast to the east of Malaga city (the capital of Malaga province). Though highly developed from a property point of view, it is not anything like the property development on the western Costa del Sol.

From Malaga eastwards there are cliffs of up to 200 meters where the Sierra Almijara joins the sea. This section ends at a place called Mara, on a coastal plain. It has an urban landscape surrounded by traditional agriculture.

Nerja is the most important urban centre on this end of the coast and has grown rapidly. Much of the eastern Costa del Sol's accommodation for tourists is found in Nerja, which is surrounded by tourist pueblos. This town also has one of this area's main tourist attractions - the Nerja Caves, a spectacular find that is open to the public and that hosts an annual music and dance festival within its famous caverns. At the foot of Nerja town a winding footpath joins several coves and there are some nice beaches to be found in this area.

The Western Costa del sol, Andalucia, Spain

This is the 100km of coastline that begins at Malaga city and stretches westward all the way to the border of Cadiz province. This part of the coast is highly developed in terms of both property and infrastructure and it attracts an important percentage of Spain's international tourism. Communications revolve around Malaga International Aiport (8 km west of the city) and the N340 backbone coast highway. In the middle of the Costa the greatly improved district road from San Pedro de Alcantara inland to the historic town of Ronda is the most important inland connection.

The main towns and tourist resorts along the Costa del sol are Benalmadena, Torremolinos, La Carihuela, Montemar and Fuengirola all of these resorts have beautiful beaches, wonderful restaurants, good accomodation including some of the best hotel´s in the area and great nightlife.

Torremolinos now has the largest gay village in Europe with some 81 gay bars located in La Nogalera.

If you travel inland you will come across some enchanting andalucian villages such as Arroyo de la miel, Alhaurin de la torre, Coin and the most famous of white villages in Andalucia Mijas with it´s beautiful cobbled streets and famous Burro Taxi´s.

The whole of the Costa del sol has so much to offer, for those of you who like entertainment try Tivoli World in Arroyo de la Miel which is a small version of Alton Towers with stage shows or see the Original Queen of the Costa, the coast´s Number 1 and only live drag artiste Miss Charity Case at The Rose and Crown in Montemar, Torremolinos or try watching a vocalist or comedian.

The art galleries and museums are a must in Andalucia and the most famous being the Pablo Piccasso museum in the old quarter of Malaga.

For great food the coast has so much to offer our special recomendations are both in Montemar, Torremolinos the Rose and Crown offers the best traditional british in the area and just two doors away is The Spanish Garden the best we have ever tasted.

Karaoke is a must for any british or irish tourist in Fuengirola check out Linda,s Bar in Torremolinos check out The Rose and Crown and also Oliver´s Bar which are again in Montemar.

If you are in Benalmadena 24 hour square is mainky quiet until about 2am in the morning but both Oliver´s and The Rose and Crown listed above will keep you occupied until then.

Another great place to be is La Nogalera the gay village in Torremolinos, this area is mainly busy on a Friday´s and Saturday´s and the most popular bars are Morbos, Contacto and Bar 21. Each bar is very different in La Nogalera some are just drinking bars whilst others offer dark rooms and other types of entertainment such as drag shows and Male Strippers.

The most popular straight bar in Torremolinos Centre is Legend´s which is located opposite the Hotel Griego Mar.

Many bars also offer Bingo here on the coast keep an eye out for bar signs for more about this.

Irish bars are plentiful on the Costa del sol but the best we think, is Mulligan´s in Montemar, Torremolinos which is a fantastic looking bar just two minutes away from the beach, it has amazing Irish food, great Irish music and a wonderful team of staff.
